Montreal Market Melon
Item Details
Melon lovers can thank a small group of Canadian preservationists for bringing back this incredibly flavorful variety in the 1990s. Its thick, green flesh is highly aromatic and has a sweet, complex taste. For peak flavor, harvest fruits when slightly under-ripe, before the rind turns yellow and the fruit softens. Melons are round to slightly flattened with a heavy, silvery netting and deep ribbing, measure 8"" in diameter, and weigh 7-8 pounds.
- Organic
- Fruits grow to 7-8 lbs

This variety works for:
- Fresh eating
Melons are traditionally eaten raw or fresh. Top a slice of melon with a dash of salt and serve with any meal or on its own!
Melon pairs nicely with both sweet and savory flavors so you can combine it with other fruits in a salad or toss with mint, feta, and cured pork or bacon.

Montreal melons are amazing!
by Green Mt Rebel
Outstanding melon- grew it on large mounds of composted horse manure per an old-time planting method- set in 11 two week old indoor starts (from 12 seeds) after our last frost date, and got 14 melons- nice size, wonderful flavor.
Needs more heat

I'm giving these two stars, because they did produce heavily in my western Washington garden, however the flavor was really unpleasant. It had an almost soapy taste to it. It was really difficult to catch them at the correct ripeness, and even then they weren't very good. I think they probably need a warmer climate to improve the flavor. They did grow extremely vigorously, and ripen in our short growing season, so they're worth trying.
worth it

i grew these melons for the 1st time here in n.w. florida under extremely poor growing conditions (hot and dry) but they produced well and the flavor is unique and pleasing. well worth a try.
Finally melon success!

Had success with these for the first time this year. Last year I planted three kinds of melons all in the same hill and the results were… questionable. This year I only planted this one and they are delicious! Kind of like a cross between honeydew and watermelon in terms of taste. I direct seeded them in April under a plastic row cover along with green beans. We had a cool damp spring, followed by a HOT, dry first two months of summer, but now it’s august and I have already had to give some to the neighbor because it’s producing well. The smaller ones have deeper ridges but the bigger they get the smoother the sides are. They also seem to hold up decently after being picked (or maybe I’m just picking them a little underripe). I will definitely grow this again!
Maybe the best green melon?

Wow. Just wow. Absolutely stunning flavor and gorgeous bright green color. A little tricky to know when it's ready - it slips from the vine when it's overripe. Harvest early.
