Item Details

The edible pods of this variety add zest (and color!) to stir fries and salads and can also be eaten raw or pickled. Plants produce striking, long, moderately pungent purple pods that are best harvested when less than 6" long but remain tender even when larger. Lovely white flowers have violet veins and a violet tinge at petal margins. Plants do not form roots, and pods have some variation in pod color, with green or purple-green sometimes manifesting.

  • Organic
  • From the Collection
  • Fall/winter and spring radish
  • Grown for the edible seed pods, not for the roots
  • Best when picked at 6 inches or less in length
  • Mildly pungent flavor

This variety works for:

  • Fresh eating

Radishes are mostly eaten raw, sliced or diced and added to salads. You can also serve them as an appetizer with dip or hummus or sliced on buttered bread.

The leaves of radish plants are edible and can be boiled to improve the texture.

MAKE SURE YOU GIVE THEM ROOM!

by

These grew like crazy! I could even say they multiplied like rats! LOL. They just kept on producing & growing. I finally pulled them out of the garden. Next year I will plant them in their own spot! They grew so heavy with rat tails they would have needed much support which, I did not give them. They hung over the other plants. Although I didn't measure, by eyeballing it, a lot of the RatTails were over a ft+ long! I got over 20gals+ B4 I pulled them out to plant midsummer & fall crops. Since I hadn't grown them B4 I planted over 20 seeds.. wow I could have made do a five! Going to give them their own out of the way space in the garden & then let the seeds fall where they may, and find out if they will self-seed. I live in northern Minnesota
