Apollo Arugula
Item Details
This improved Dutch strain of garden arugula (also known as rocket) is noted for its lack of bitterness and its spicy, large, rounded leaves, which are high in vitamin C. This variety can be harvested three to five times per sowing, functioning like a cut-and-come again crop.
- Conventional
- Excellent flavor
- High in vitamin C
- Produces 3-5 cuttings
This variety works for:
- Fresh eating
The nutty and peppery taste of arugula is strong for a leafy green and provides a nice contrast to lettuce in a salad.
Larger and older leaves should be warmed and even lightly wilted for the best flavor. You can sprinkle them on pizzas fresh from the oven or toss them with pasta and roasted tomatoes.
Try replacing basil with arugula in your favorite pesto recipe!
Growing Instructions
Instructions - Sow seeds outdoors as soon as soil can be worked and danger of hard frost has passed. For a continuous supply of arugula, sow every three weeks throughout the summer. Best grown in cooler weather. Plant in full sun or partial shade.
- Direct Seed: 1" Apart
- Seed Depth: 1/4"
- Germination: 5-7 Days
- Thin: 1-6" Apart

Not bitter!
by Rebecca
I didn't think I liked arugula until I tried this! It is peppery without the bitterness... my favorite item to buy from seed savers.
Great producer, great flavor

Super fast growing and productive arugula with great flavor. Pests don't seem super interested. Extra large leaves stay tender even when huge! I prefer the taste of wild arugula, but for annual arugula hard to beat this one! We grew it all winter and spring here in California 9b. Excellent for salad, pesto, you name it!
Response from Seed Savers Exchange: Excellent! We're so glad you enjoyed this.
Not bitter. Very mild and full of flavor. Yum in every bite.

So tasty and milder flavored than others, the Apollo is my go-to. Tried not to eat the little leaves so fast, but they're so good!
