Cabbage is delicious eaten raw and can be grated and tossed into a traditional coleslaw which can serve as a side dish or topping for burgers, barbeque and even grilled sausages.

Sauerkraut and kimchi are popular ways of preserving cabbage over the winter. Make several small batches with different vegetables and seasonings to pair with your meals throughout the year.

Growing Instructions

Instructions - Sow seeds indoors ¼" deep. Plant out just before the last frost. Make sure cabbage has a regular supply of water.

My Grandpa's favorite cabbage


This was my grandpa's favorite cabbage and he planted it every year while he was able to plant a garden. (Now my dad plants if for him) the leaves are large which is perfect for cabbage rolls. it does better in heat then most cabbages do. It does take up a lot of space which is needed to support the size of the head that forms. Grows very well in southern Indiana and is very easy to start from seed.



Our family loved this cabbage! We make traditional dishes for Christmas with cabbage leaves and sauerkraut. We grew this variety for those dishes this year and they were excellent. Good, heavy heads with great flavor. They also kept very well.

The Kraut Maker


Make kraut with these for several years, unbeatable size/flavor. I use sq ft gardening, but with these I leave "conventional" room around until I can plant a succession crop with shallow roots or a cover crop. Typically plant mine for late fall harvest/pickling. Doesn't take many heads to get a five gallon bucket of kraut.
